Telecoms can help drive the Indian economy and bridge the digital divide however this vison of spreading the reach of broadband to India must be correctly planned. The aim and objectives to extend the reach of broadband are; boosting boost broadband subscriber numbers to 175 million by 2017 and to 600 million by 2020, increasing rural telecom penetration to 70 percent by 2017 and to 100 percent by 2020 and making available an additional 300MHz of spectrum for International Mobile Telecommunication.
