Huawei, the Chinese telecom gear manufacturer, is all set to lead a number of smart city projects in India. It plans to collaborate with other firms in areas such as public safety.
The Chinese giant provides infrastructure solutions in connection with ICT for smart cities to offer a platform that will hold all the applications in vertical layers.
Joe So, CTO, Industry Solutions Enterprise Business Group, Huawei, said: “I think smart city as a concept rather than a solution. In Huawei if you look at all the Indian smart cities, it’s not going to happen too quick, based on my experience with China, Dubai, and Singapore.
“We are initiating a lot of projects with our partners in India. However, our strategy is to be focused on certain areas rather than doing everything.”
The company is reportedly in talks with the Indian government to build trust and win the confidence of the authorities that it can provide best equipment at reasonable prices.
Other global players that plan to invest in smart city projects are Ericsson, ZTE and Cisco.
